the opportune moment · the steersman · the weave
Notice this exact moment.
It has never happened before, and will not happen again.
The in-breath — the opening.
The out-breath — the shuttle passing through.

By the end of this hour: how to feel the opening — in your own mind, in your relationships, and in this strange, opportune moment of our culture.
The Greeks had two words for time. One is a quantity. The other is a quality — the opportune moment.
An opening through which the arrow has to pass —
with force, and there is no second chance.
The critical moment when the weaver must draw the yarn
through the gap that momentarily opens in the warp.
“Why is your hair over your eyes?”
“For anyone I meet to take me by the forelock.”
Kybernētēs — the helmsman. To steer is not to control: it is to sense subtle shifts and respond in kind.

There have always been technologies of control —
and there have always been technologies of revelation.
Monks trained attention like a muscle.
Now we train algorithms. And they, in turn, train us.
“The PC is the LSD of the ’90s.” — Timothy Leary
So what is AI the LSD of?
“The Greek word kubernetes, translated to Latin, comes out as gubernetes… to control, to keep under, to restrain. Note how the engineers have corrupted the meaning of ‘cyber’ — the Greek ‘pilot’ becomes ‘governor’. Now we are liberating the term.”
“How we can democratize the cyberscreen politics of the future.”
“My brain, like yours, needs to swim, float, navigate through the oceans of electronic data.”
Tantra — from √tan, to stretch, plus -tra, instrument:
an instrument for expansion.
“tanyate vyūtpādyata iti tantram” — that by which awareness is extended.
What is stretched becomes a thread. A thread held across time is a continuum.
Tantra means continuum — rgyud, prabandha. Ground, path and fruit are not three stages but mutually implicated dimensions of a single continuum.
“The practitioner is already characterised by the fruition of the practice.”
The seed does not acquire the tree. It unfolds it.
Insight arrives feeling true — whether or not it is.
That is why this path was never walked alone.
We didn’t add these four. They were each something you already saw happen.
“The deepest claim of tantra — that ground, path, and fruit are inseparable, and are held together through embodied human transmission — is also a claim about what an adequate scientific translation must preserve.”
“The Analytical Engine weaves algebraical patterns
just as the Jacquard-loom weaves flowers and leaves.”

“An inescapable network of mutuality… a single garment of destiny.” — MLK
The garment is fraying.
We are never not interdependent.
The only question is whether our interdependence
nourishes or depletes us.
Australia, July 2023: world-first authorised prescribing of MDMA & psilocybin therapy. Phase-3 pipeline behind it.
Group VR now produces ego-attenuation and connectedness comparable to psilocybin (Nature Sci. Reports, 2022).
A “silent, cold, unresponsive” world (Rosa). “Attention is a moral act” (McGilchrist). The need has never been sharper.
In 1985, South African clergy named their crisis
a kairos — “the moment of truth.”
I believe we are in one.
What we pass through the opening now
gets woven into the next culture.

“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.”
Chalmers answers: virtual worlds are real.
Every technology of oppression is also a technology of liberation.

Bodies rendered as luminous clouds with a heart-light — ego-attenuation statistically indistinguishable from a moderate dose of psilocybin.
The aesthetic is ancient: clear light, cloud-like bodies — the sky-imagery of Dzogchen.
The Four Thoughts × Macy’s spiral: The Thoughts That Reconnect. The hidden connective tissue of the living world, revealed.
Multi-user VR ritual — deidentified energy bodies; the Truth Mandala and the Cosmic Walk, translated into shared virtual space.
A seed planted in week one; an integration program in an app built with Claude Code. 72 participants · HRV & EEG · five timepoints.
John Seed’s recorded voice narrates deep time: “…and this is MY story.”

Buddhist inner technology, meeting ecological process work.
Deity yoga, running on the Proteus effect.
It is — quite literally — cyberdelic tantra.

“I was everybody. Unity. One life.
I was swimming in the sea — and the sea was me.”
Not simply where experience happens — part of how experience is perceived, organised, protected against and remembered.
Finding choice within patterns that once felt automatic — noticed, without immediately becoming destiny.
Listening to the body’s rapid reading of safety, danger and relational possibility.
Moving with intensity without flooding or shutdown. Not permanent calm — responsiveness, rhythm, return.
Insight becoming posture, movement, speech, relationship, action.
More than thinking about thinking: recognising mental activity as mental activity — and responding with increasing flexibility.
The assumptions, expectations and intentions that shape what becomes available to us.
Observing without immediate identification — space enough for another response to become possible.
Relating skilfully to our many parts and perspectives. A plural mind need not be a divided mind.
A coherent, revisable, life-giving orientation — cultivated through reflection, testing, embodiment and time.
The self not as an isolated object — but embodied, relational, ecological, cultural, extended through time. Connection treated as active medicine.
Beyond the fiction of the isolated self. Suffering is personal — but never only personal.
Trust built through invitation, attunement, collaboration. Not an outcome of healing — one of its primary conditions.
Giving preverbal and symbolic experience a form — image, story, ritual, humour, play.
Crossing beyond contracted identity without abandoning the body, relationship or ordinary life.
An altered state offers possibility.
An altered trait is possibility, practiced.
Fruition is effortlessness.
Wonder — being genuinely arrested by what is real. Is the frame large enough for what may arrive?
Beginner’s mind. Make frame, break frame — the rhythm itself produces wisdom.
Compassion in action — having tea with what arises, rather than walking the tightrope.
The middle path as a generative centre. Tend your flame — it takes a lit lamp to light another.
All four are kairos tools — threading the present moment in a chosen direction.
I’m going to share one of these with you.
Kairos is the pressure of the opportune moment —
the opening itself decides what passes through.

I said one.
But life, I find, gives you multiple windows, doors, paths.

The instant a defence softens. The opening after a rupture, when repair becomes possible. The moment of genuine meeting.
Connection is not an outcome of healing — it is one of its primary conditions.
Ichi-go ichi-e — one time, one meeting. This conversation will not happen again. What quality of presence does it deserve?
Build vivid structure — generation. Release it — completion. Neither alone produces wisdom; the rhythm does.
Psychedelics are frame-breaking technology. Practice and integration are frame-making.
Medicine without integration drifts. Structure without release goes rigid.

“The wave is free
when it realises it is part of the sea.”
Freedom is not escaping the weave —
it is recognising you were never separate from it.

“SWIM teaches us to navigate the current. FLOAT is the moment we remember the water is also holding us.”
The pattern loosens…
“The Kairos — the knot in the loom — is open for a moment,
yet that is the space where all transformation occurs.
The timeless arrives within time.”
You are not the cloth.
You are not even the shuttle.
You are the weaver — and the weaving is shared.
Whose hands are on the loom of the next culture?
Ours are.
“Old patterns run deep.
In the right conditions, they soften — and new ones take hold.”
